Background

SWITCH Bangladesh Foundation (A Youth Platform for Social Development) is a nonprofit, non-political, non-governmental registered organization; working to establish rights of disadvantaged and vulnerable people especially children, established in 2011 in Bangladesh. The goal of SWITCH Bangladesh Foundation is to ensure basic rights such education, health, cloths, for disadvantaged children and removing their vulnerability from the country as well as from the world. Also working for empowering persons with disabilities and distress, elimination of all kinds of discrimination and ensuring their equal participation in society.

Wheelchair Service

project of Switch Bangladesh Foundation at the Book Fair (Ekushey Boimela). Switch Bangladesh Foundation is an NGO in Bangladesh, determined to enhance community advancement and empowerment for the unprivileged people and contribute to sustainable development. Switch Bangladesh Foundation is always focused on helping people who need help. Out of many projects we established, the “Wheelchair Service” project is one of our most innovative and unique projects. The project’s core theme is to provide service to the disabled and old people in the book fair. In Bangladesh,, every year Bangla Academy organizes a Book Fair for the whole February month. The fair is a huge place to explore and to look for and thousands of people visit the fair every day. Bookworm people eagerly wait for this fair but there are many people with disabilities, with their old age who have barriers to walking, and stability, and because of these reasons they are unable to explore the fair despite their interest. For people like them Switch Bangladesh Foundation (SBF) in association with Bangla Academy came up with this innovative project where volunteers from SBF will provide wheelchair service to those people and show them around the fair. This project gained popularity over the years and benefited a lot of people.

Activities to be undertaken by SWITCH :

  • Recruit, train and manage volunteers for this program, volunteers shall be responsible for accompanying visits on the wheelchairs at all times, provide support as necessary for the proper implementation of the program.
  • Trained and oriented volunteers to maintain discipline and punctuality to promote the objectives of the program and uphold the image of Foundation and Bangla Academy
  • Ensure proper maintenance, operation, safe-keeping and storage of the said wheelchair units throughout the duration of this program.
  • Spread information and awareness about the program to wider audiences through their networks and appropriate channels.

Responsibility

SWITCH Bangladesh Foundation to maintain lists of daily attendance of volunteers, daily number of children / persons with disabilities using services from our arrangements, sharing of visitor comments and suggestions by maintaining an appropriate visitor’s book/register
