An integrated social initiative is regarded to be a supporter member to develop disadvantaged children as competent and productive human resource. Diamonds in the Rough

I’ll tell you about Nur-e-Alam today; he’s a sixteen-year-old kid who’s a gem in the rough! Nur was eleven years old when we opened our school in 2015, and he used to come by and observe the teachers while he stood outside the classrooms. After some time, I managed to get a hold of him and learned that he was a Class 2 student who disliked his previous school. He chose to observe silently from outside because he enjoyed the way our teachers instruct the class” Sir, will you admit me to your school?” he asked, overwhelming me. They were dependent on the income of his older sister because his father, a mason, was unemployed. I took a brief break to consider this. I was certain it was the right decision to allow him to enroll in our school. He is still a huge fan of our school. We also built him a tea stall to keep him employed and prevent him from quitting school, given his financial situation. Nur-e-Alam’s incredible drawing abilities were noticed by all the volunteers from the Art Institute who visited our school one day. Nur-e-Alam stood out from the crowd during the children’s art competition that we organized. We treasure the fact that people were interested in purchasing his paintings, and I was filled with nostalgia thinking back to his first day of travel with us. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and changing times, Nur-e-Alam’s family was forced to relocate to the village. We continue to reassure him that we will always be there for him, and now he is a student in class ten

Diamonds In The Rough Shahnaj, the Chess Girl

Switch Tahmina Banu Bidyaniketan’s Shahnaj is an exceptional student. She is currently a class 8 student. She radiates like a star in the crowd. Ever since arriving at SWITCH, she has been demarcating her domain. She has every opportunity to achieve stardom. By maximizing her potential, they brought out the best in her. She first attended his primary classes, and she is currently enrolled in class eight. She noticed others playing chess at school, which piqued her interest in the game. She also began studying chess out of curiosity. She picked up chess quickly, and it was impossible to stop her. She took part in and excelled in multiple chess tournaments. She even managed to get a 1346 rating. Shahnaj emerged victorious in the inter-school chess competition. She took part in multiple chess competitions and won prizes. Significantly for her age, she took part in the BUET Rapid Rating tournament. She told us that her dream was to become a grandmaster of chess in Bangladesh when we asked her about it. I’m always appreciative to SWITCH for providing this chance.” She is not only an excellent chess player but also a talented singer, reciter, and sketch artist. Switch teaches her singing and painting. If we looked around, we could see that many underprivileged kids like Shahnaj simply need a helping hand—like a switch—to develop so they can improve their lives by getting what they deserve.

Shimanta Creating Tools from Discarded Materials

Shimanta is a student of class 8 of Switch Tahmina BanuBiddyaniketon. He is 15 years old and the third child in the family. When he came to this school he was only 10 years old boy.His father is a caretaker. Shimanta comes from a poor family. His dream is to become a mechanical engineer. He is always absorbed in creating something new. He has a great interest in making vacuum cleaners out of discarded plastic bottles on the street. He has been making ATM booths with motors and other related materials, drill machines, electric foam cutters, remote controls, cars, and other electronic devices. He wants to make lamps with discarded materials. He said that people who do not have electricity can use these lamps to meet the need for electric bulbs. Whatever he gets near his hands, he tries to make something new out of it. If he gets support in his work, he can do something good for the country one day.

Diamonds In The Rough Sonia, the Artisan Girl

Every person on this earth is gifted with some latent talents, regardless of what their birth status is. Sonia is one such example. She belongs to a poor family. She is a fifth-grade student of Switch Tahmina Banu Bidyaniketan run by Switch Foundation. Even though there is poverty in her family, making craft after her school time has become her hobby. She makes beautiful handicrafts and brings them to school. Her teachers also help her in the work. In the pandemic situation, her father, who used to work as a security guard,lost his job. Poverty became severe in their family. Moreover, her father borrowed a lot of money. It is now difficult for her father to run the family and repay the loans. So, Sonia says, her family will send her to work in the garment industry. There are chances that this girl may get married in a few days after she starts working in a garment factory. If she cannot continue her studies, maybe, one day, her dream of standing on her own feet will remain a dream only. Due to the lack of support, we do not see the development of such talents and creativity of many Sonias in our society. We lose them to neglect, child marriage, poverty, school dropout and lack of opportunities.
